Bitcoin Has Had a Special Place in My Heart Since 2013
In 2013 I bought my first Bitcoin for about $92. At one point I had around 10 BTC. I wish this were the part where I tell you I still have them sitting in cold storage somewhere. I don't.
When Bitcoin eventually hit around $1,000, I sold what I had left. In hindsight, that wasn't exactly the trade of the century.
But Bitcoin did something much more important for me than give me a chart I could torture myself with later. It changed how I thought about risk, technology, and opportunities outside the normal path.
By 2016 I was regularly talking with coworkers about cryptocurrency, investing, and taking risks beyond conventional careers. I made several thousand dollars from crypto—and some of those profits were sold and used to help fund the creation of Checkout Saver.
Checkout Saver launched as an independently funded savings platform. Bitcoin didn't make me a billionaire. Clearly—I sold around $1,000. But it helped teach me to look for opportunities before they become obvious, and some of that journey eventually went into building this company.

I still joke that there’s a non-zero chance the whole thing was a CIA project.
Do I have proof? Absolutely not. That’s part of the fun of Satoshi lore. Bitcoin’s creator disappeared, nobody has conclusively proved who was behind the name, and the speculation has been running ever since.
