Fox Patrol: A Smarter Price Tracker

Fox Patrol is Checkout Saver’s Smart Price Watch and Shopping Intelligence feature. The idea is that you tell Fox Patrol what you want to buy, and Checkout Saver does the repetitive checking for you — recording the price, watching for drops, and, as the product matures, working out where and how the purchase is actually cheapest. Fox Patrol is in development and is not live yet.

A Hunt is a product you have asked Fox Patrol to keep looking for. Instead of saving one retailer URL, the goal is to understand what you are actually trying to buy and then search for that product wherever Checkout Saver can reliably identify it. Starting one will be called Start a Hunt, an active one shows as Hunting, and your saved Hunts will live in an area called My Hunts.

No. Fox Patrol is coming soon. It is under active development and is not monitoring any products today. Every price, chart, notification, and dashboard shown on this page is a labelled example of the planned experience. Join early access and we will let you know when you can start your first Hunt.

That is the intended positioning: another free Checkout Saver tool, in the same way cashback, coupons, and Discount Gift Cards are free. There is no planned Fox Patrol subscription and no plan to take a percentage of what you save.

The free Checkout Saver browser extension should be the easiest way to start a Hunt, because it can put Start a Hunt right on the product page you are already looking at. It is not intended to be the only way. Pasting a product URL and searching for a product inside Checkout Saver are both part of the plan, which matters on mobile and in browsers where the extension is not available.

A price tracker is a tool that records the price of a product over time and tells you when it changes. Most price trackers watch a single retailer listing and email you when the number on that page goes down. Fox Patrol starts from the same idea and is being designed to go further than a single listing.

A price drop alert is a notification sent when a product you are watching becomes cheaper. Alerts are usually triggered by any decrease, by a target price you chose, or by a percentage change. Fox Patrol’s planned alerts cover those cases plus new observed lows and, longer term, a cheaper effective checkout elsewhere.

The intended flow is: find a product you want, Start a Hunt, and let Fox Patrol check on it for you. Initially that means identifying the product, recording its current price, checking it roughly daily, keeping the prices it has observed, and notifying you when the price falls. Later stages are described on this page as planned work, not shipped features.

Approximately daily is the intended starting point for a Hunt. We are not guaranteeing a fixed interval before the feature exists. Real-world check frequency will depend on the retailer, how the product is identified, and what we can do reliably without hammering a store.

Yes, that is planned. Once a Hunt starts, the intent is to keep the prices Fox Patrol has observed so you can see whether today’s price is genuinely unusual or just a familiar sale. We do not have historical pricing for products today, and a Hunt would only build history from the point it begins.

Planned. The intended Hunt settings include notifying you on any drop, when the price falls below an amount you choose, when it falls by a percentage, when the product reaches a new observed low, and eventually when another retailer becomes the better buy.

Cross-retailer tracking is a core goal of the product-level intelligence we are building, and it is the main reason Fox Patrol exists rather than another single-listing tracker. It is not working yet. Doing it responsibly means matching products confidently, not just guessing that two similar titles are the same item.

That is the long-term goal where applicable. Checkout Saver already works with coupons, so folding known coupon savings into what a purchase would actually cost is a natural step. It is not part of Fox Patrol today.

The long-term goal is to include Checkout Saver cashback where it applies, because cashback can change which retailer is genuinely cheapest. Rates vary by store and can change, so any cashback shown in a future effective price would be an estimate based on the rate available at that moment.

Discount Gift Cards are one of the clearest examples of why sticker price is not the whole story, so incorporating those savings into effective-price intelligence is a long-term goal. Availability varies by retailer and by what is actually in stock, which is part of why this is later on the roadmap.

Planned. A cheaper item with paid shipping can easily cost more than a slightly pricier item that ships free, so shipping needs to be part of any honest comparison. Shipping cost can depend on your address, order total, and membership status, so expect estimates rather than guarantees.

Estimated tax is a future goal, not a promise of precision. Tax depends on your location, the retailer, the seller, the product category, and rules that change. If Fox Patrol shows estimated tax, it will be clearly labelled as an estimate and the final amount will always be whatever the retailer charges at checkout.

By identifying the product rather than the page. That means using identifiers such as UPC, GTIN, EAN, manufacturer part number, and model number alongside brand, title, and variation attributes like size, color, capacity, pack quantity, bundle contents, condition, and seller. Matching will carry a confidence level — Exact Match, Likely Match, or Possible Alternative — and we will not present a low-confidence match as if it were definitely the same item.

There is overlap in the basic idea: both let you flag a product and be told when the price drops, and both come from a broader shopping extension rather than a dedicated price-history site. Fox Patrol is being designed around identifying the underlying product and comparing complete checkout costs across retailers, including Checkout Saver cashback and Discount Gift Card savings. Fox Patrol is not available yet, so we are describing intent, not a head-to-head comparison.

CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are well known for price tracking and deep price history, particularly around Amazon, and Keepa is popular with sellers for its data density. Fox Patrol is aimed at a different question: not only how one listing’s price has moved, but which retailer and which combination of savings adds up to the best actual checkout for the product you want. Price history is a planned part of that, not the whole product.
